[V-Mic D4 Mini] Overview & Specifications

The Deity V-Mic D4 Mini compact on-camera shotgun microphone: features and full specifications.

The V-Mic D4 Mini is a compact, affordable on-camera shotgun microphone that captures directional audio and rejects sound coming from off-camera. Its small size and offset shockmount make it ideal for wide-angle vlogging cameras and action cameras, and it runs passively off your camera, phone, or recorder with no battery to charge.

The offset shockmount keeps the microphone clear of the lens on compact bodies, and the side-mounted output jack is perfect for hybrid DSLR shooters who still want to use the eyepiece for taking photos. A dedicated input jack lets you split the stereo tracks and insert a secondary audio source, such as a wireless microphone, without a splitter cable.

Key Features

  • Compact design that suits small mirrorless, DSLR, and action cameras.
  • 20mph wind rating for reliable outdoor use.
  • Automatic extra-track assignment when a secondary source is plugged into the input (Right Channel).
  • Passive: runs off 1 to 5V plug-in power from cameras, phones, and audio recorders, with no battery required.
  • Includes microphone, faux fur windshield, TRS camera cable, TRRS phone cable, and shockmount.

Overview

The V-Mic D4 Mini uses a supercardioid polar pattern to focus on what is in front of the camera and reject off-axis noise. Because it is passive, it draws its power from the plug-in power supplied by your device over the 3.5mm TRS connection, so there is nothing to switch on and nothing to recharge.

The side-mounted output means the cable exits to the side rather than the rear, keeping the camera eyepiece and rear controls accessible. When you connect a secondary source, such as a wireless receiver, to the input jack, the microphone automatically routes that source to the right channel so you capture both signals without an external splitter.
