[PR-4] Input, Mix & Output

This guide covers the PR-4 signal chain: input track settings, stereo link, ISO mode, the limiter, mixing, and output routing. The PR-4 offers a Basic mode for entry-level use and an Expert mode that adds faders and finer control (set in System Settings).

Input Tracks

By default, Track 1 and Track 2 correspond to XLR channels 1 and 2, and Track 3 and Track 4 correspond to the 3.5mm TRS input. Each track can be configured individually.

Mode: Mic, Mic 48V, Line, AES3 Digital, or AES42 Digital. When any track is set to AES, all tracks switch to digital input and the 3.5mm TRS input is disabled. Allow about 7 seconds after a mode change for initialization.
Gain: Mic / 48V / AES42 = 0 to +60dB; Line = -20 to +30dB; AES3 = -20 to +40dB.
Fader (Expert only): -inf to +20dB. Affects the L/R mix and any post-fader track. In Basic mode the fader is fixed at 0.
Low Cut: Off, 75Hz, or 150Hz, to reduce wind, air conditioning, and low-frequency noise.
Pan: Left, Center, or Right in the L/R mix (Expert mode).
Phase: invert the input phase to clean up two mics on the same source.
Delay: 0 to 50ms, to compensate for distance between mics.
EQ: a 3-band parametric equalizer (Low, Mid, High), gain +/-18dB per band, Q from 1 to 30.

Stereo Link

Link channels 1 and 2 into a stereo file: Off, Link 1/2, MS 60° (narrow), or MS 120° (wide). When linked, Track 1 settings apply to Track 2. In MS mode, one knob adjusts gain or fader and the other adjusts the MS ratio. Link is disabled in AES mode.

ISO Mode

Sets where single-track audio is captured in the chain, for all four channels at once. Pre-Fader records before the fader (fader moves do not affect the file); Post-Fader records after the fader. This is greyed out during recording and in Expert mode.

Limiter

Turn the input limiter on to prevent distortion from sudden loud peaks. Off by default.

Mix

Automix: automatically balances multiple inputs and reduces noise. Available only at 48kHz and when not in AES42 mode; disables MS link when on.
Routing: assign which channels feed Mix L and Mix R.
EQ L / EQ R: a 3-band parametric equalizer on each mix bus (+/-18dB, Q 1 to 30).

Output

Routing: set the signal and level for the two output channels (OP1/OP2). Each output carries a single signal (1, 2, 3, 4, L, R, or the LR mix); use the mix to combine signals.
Delay: 0 to 50ms, applied to both OP1 and OP2.
Tone: a 1kHz reference tone, level -20 to 0dB, sent to OP1, OP2, and the headphones to set a consistent reference level.
Headphone: three saved monitor presets (FAV1 to FAV3) plus a fixed Stereo L/R preset; set left and right routing per preset.
Rec Reminder: an optional recording alert tone in the headphones, level -30 to +10dB.

Noise Reduction

Enable noise reduction on selected channels. Depth is 0 to -6dB in Basic mode and 0 to -20dB in Pro mode. No channels are selected by default, so recordings are unprocessed unless you enable it.
